On the last day of road trip (well last day of stops) we stopped in New York City! Unfortunately, we only had about half a day there, so we couldn’t really see too much. We ended up doing a lot less of your typical New York City tourist stuff. Each of us had things we wanted to see or do.
Here’s what our list ended up consisting of:
• Macy’s on 5th Avenue
• M&M’s World in Time Square
• Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue (to eat “breakfast” at Tiffany’s)
• Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park
• Empire State Building
• Eat NY style pizza
• Statue of Liberty
• 9/11 Memorial
When we finally got into the city our plan was to work from downtown to uptown with the exception of Central Park. First on our list was the 9/11 Memorial and the Statue of Liberty. We did see it, but from Battery Park. That was followed by NY style pizza at a small nearby pizza place. I do have to say, it was some of the best pizza I’ve had in a long time, with the exception possibly being the pizza we had down in Atlanta from Your Pie.
Next, was Macy’s on 5th Avenue. Department stores aren’t something I’m really that interested in, but one of my friends really wanted to see the famous Macy’s in person (as you can see in the picture below). This was definitely, by far, the biggest store I’ve ever been in with maybe the exception of Bronner’s up in Frankenmuth, Michigan. At one point we even had trouble figuring out what floor we were on. (The floors kind of overlap or are half floors…)
As for the Empire State Building, we counted going into the lobby of the Empire State Building. (Yes, I know the lobby doesn’t really count as visiting the Empire State building…but we were pretty short on money by this point and it’s $32…).
And here’s our “breakfast” at Tiffany’s!
I don’t want to make this post too long, so I’ll cover our adventures in Central Park and Time Square in my next post!
